PAUL TEAGUE
ESSEX WATCH ADMIISTRATOR FOR TENDRING

My name is Paul Teague. I am the Essex Watch Administrator for Tendring. I have been in post since July 2008. I have been working in the police service for over 8 years, 4 years with Metropolitan police and over 4 years with Essex Police.

Neighbourhood Watch has been very successful in Tendring with many new groups being established. Neighbourhood Watch started life in the United States in a town call Oakland and was introduced in the UK in 1982 since then over 10, 0000 groups have been established.

The aim of NHW is for neighbourhoods to get together and make a positive impact on crime in the area.

Each street/road is covered by a co-ordinator. Once the group is established it is run by you, this will be supported by Essex Police but will not be run by them

My role as Essex Watch Administrator is defined below.

Essex Police has launched Essex Watch designed to provide a more co-ordinated approach to various watches in Essex.

Essex Police has employed Essex Watch Administrators who will help information to pass from various groups in their area back to Essex Police and visa versa.

There are many different types of watches across Essex, including:

  Neighbourhood Watch

  Business watch

  Horse watch

  Taxi watch

  Marine watch

  Pub Watch and many more

Information from Neighbourhood Action Panels will also be fed through the administrator.

Essex Watch is not designed to replace or take over existing organisations. It’s a communication between existing watches and Essex Police. The Essex Watch Administrator will work closely with District Commanders, Crime Reduction Officers and Neighbourhood Policing Teams.

MIKE VAUGHAN-CHATFIELD
Chair of Tendring District & Clacton Area Neighbourhood Watch

Mike Vaughan-Chatfield has lived and worked in the area for over thirty years.

He is a qualified Teacher and Photographer and has been involved in voluntary community work for many years.

He has experience serving on various committees but he is also chairman of several organisations.

He is keen to facilitate and help co-ordinate the activities and expansion of Neighbourhood Watch throughout Tendring to reduce crime and improve community safety.

Mike is a strong believer in communication at all levels and this website and the Call Centre are two of many innovations being instigated for the area.

He has a deserved reputation for saying what he means and meaning what he says – additionally he is dedicated and enthusiastic and looking forward to leading a strong team in Tendring.

Mike and Paul are working in support of each other to advantage Neighbourhood Watch – in both the short and longer term.

ALAN MARSHALL
Tendring Neighbourhood Watch Treasurer

Alan Marshall has for many years been a member of Neighbourhood Watch.

He has been very keen and successful in raising funds for the work of the Watch.

This has included working on stalls at the Carnival and other events including the Annual Clacton Air Show to increase our funds.

Additionally working with the new committee he has been researching sources of grants for future activities and projects to meet identified needs that can be addressed by the Executive Committee to enhance the district provisions.

This website for example is the result of obtaining suitable support funding for which we are grateful.

Alan has a reputation for excellent stewardship of our funding and we are grateful for his on going work.

All expenditure on projects for example clearly has to be endorsed by the Executive.

JOHN HARVEY-BOWERS
The Elected Secretery

John Harvey-Bowers has proven himself to be quietly efficient and accurate in his recording of meetings and communicating on behalf of the committee.

His work load will increase as the Watch expands and we plan many more activities throughout Tending.
